LM Wind Power 73.5 meter wind turbine blades selected for first US offshore wind farm

LM Wind Power is pleased to announce that it will supply a total of fifteen 73.5m blades to the first industrial-scale US offshore windfarm.

Wind turbine manufacturer Alstom has received formal notice to proceed (NTP) on the Block Island Offshore Windfarm, and the project will showcase five Alstom Haliade 150 6-MW wind turbines featuring LM Wind Power’s innovative 73.5m blades.

According to LM Wind Power VP of Offshore Development, Alexis Crama, “The rotor set is one of the most influential ways to reduce overall cost of offshore wind energy and LM Wind Power is proud to be chosen as a critical part of the equation. Multi-turbine demonstration projects of this nature are crucial to prove the viability of offshore wind in the US and bring the industry one step closer towards utility-scale deployments and manufacturing scale”.

LM Wind Power is the leader within the modern ultra-long blade segment, continuously first-to-market with innovative solutions to minimize capital expenditure, ensure predictable running costs and maximize Annual Energy Production (AEP). The 73.5m blade in particular is specifically designed for high-output, lightweight, and reliability.

LM Wind Power possesses a unique offshore track record, having supplied approximately 50% of all offshore blades installed globally on turbines of 5MW+.  The company looks forward to bringing its offshore experience from Europe and Asia, to this important and historical US turbine deployment.
