Our approach to sustainability
We’ve always worked to find the best balance between profitable growth, integrity and caring for people as well as for the environment, but we want to improve.
Sustainability makes good business sense. That is the starting point for our approach to sustainability. The key words are humble, no-nonsense and business focused. It is not about philanthropy or making us look better than we are – it’s about building a profitable, sustainable business and preparing a long term proposition for the future.
In 2010, we joined the UN Global Compact to mark a renewed and more structured approach to sustainability. We are justifiably proud of our long track record in contributing to renewable energy but we still have a long way to go and much to improve. We are here to create value for our investors and that requires focused efforts on developing our products, processes and people to improve performance and working environment and reducing our environmental impact, while keeping a firm eye on cost.
It’s a matter of not wasting resources, planning ahead, and constantly trying to improve. Those are the overall headlines for our sustainability initiatives that we focus within the areas of Safety, Environment, Technology and People.
Our Code of Conduct which was formalized in 2007 provides the ethical framework for how we interact and do business. This core document and our corporate values guide our employees all over the world and we encourage customers, suppliers, consultants and other business partners to adhere to and adopt the principles of the Code of Conduct.
