Integrated calculations

LM Blades supports the integrated calculation of aerodynamics, structure, loads and the control system, all in one single tool. This software suite performs much faster and provides a more precise calculation of everything from geometry to finite element analysis. The software optimises the blades in relation to the wind turbine as a whole.

Specially developed

In LM Blades, all information is collected in a single database, and the different calculation modules can communicate with each other. This translates into a consistent dataflow:

  • greater precision and more refined calculations
  • greater clarity (tracking the design process)
  • faster calculations.

More design loops in a shorter time

It used to take several days to calculate the effects of a change of structure (e.g. moving the glass fibre sheets) on the blade. With LM Blades, it now takes just a few minutes. This software enables the user to physically move components such as glass fibre sheets around on screen. The same flexibility applies to changes in geometry, structure, loads, etc.
A global calculation of an entire design now only takes a few hours. LM Blades can calculate more design variations in a shorter time, leaving scope for fine-tuning the relationship between performance and loads. Ultimately, this improves the overall economy of the wind turbine as a whole.

Automatic input to FEM

One unique feature of LM Blades is that it automatically generates input data for FEM (Finite Element) calculations. This is normally a very time-consuming process, and manual entry carries a risk of errors. LM Blades therefore means we can quickly create finite element analyses to verify buckling in the design.

Integrated blade development

Our aim is to boost the efficiency of wind turbine blades – and also reduce their price. This requires perfect interaction between the blades and all the other wind turbine components.
