LM Wind Power employs a number of different check procedures both during production and prior to delivery of the blades to the customer.
Examples of our methods include: testing adhesive joints using infrared cameras and ultrasound and four-point resistance measurement in lightning conductor system. More about these non-destructive testing (NTD) methods
A blade certificate accompanies the blade from the start of production until delivery. This certificate contains all the relevant data and test results, plus the reference numbers of the raw materials used in each blade. The certificates are delivered to the customer and copies are kept on file at LM Wind Power.
LM Wind Power constantly strives to minimise the likelihood of faults occurring in the different stages of development and production of the blades. This ISO-certified QA system is one way we ensure that we always identify, correct and learn from any mistakes made.
LM Wind Power, along with all our production facilities, is ISO 9001 certified. Click here for our ISO certificates
A wind turbine blade mainly consists of glass fibre, resin and the core material, which we purchase from suppliers all over the world. To make sure that the product our customers receive is of a superior, consistent quality, it is important to ensure the quality of the raw materials used in its construction. All deliveries of the main materials, for example resin, are inspected in the LM Wind Power laboratories on receipt. If a delivery does not meet our specifications, the batch in question is rejected and returned to the supplier. All suppliers of main components are preapproved on the basis of specific criteria, and are audited by LM Wind Power on an ongoing basis.
For LM Wind Power, technology transfer is a systematic process comprising five well-defined steps that are followed every time new production facilities are established or a new blade type is produced at our existing facilities. The technology transfer manual forms part of our quality control system.
The process of technology transfer draws on experts from existing factories who know everything from factory design, equipment, tests and production processes to quality control and testing.
Management and staff are trained in all stages of production, and working methods are adapted to local conditions. Finally, the processes and products must comply with LM Wind Power’s quality and environmental standards.
This guarantees that customers receive blades of the same superior quality regardless of whether the delivery is from an LM Wind Power factory in India, China, Spain, the USA, Canada, Denmark or Poland.
Technology and know-how are transferred seamlessly between all our factories, so that we can manufacture exactly the same quality products anywhere in the world. This is a field in which LM Wind Power has exceptional experience.
