Wind turbine blades have to be extremely durable during the course of their 20-year service life. They are exposed to enormous pressure and extreme loads, as well as rain and humidity, sunlight and pollution, salt water and frequent lightning strikes. As a result, the structure must be extremely durable, and high quality must be maintained throughout the production process.
More about how we guarantee the quality of the blades right from the design stage
LM blades have the same high quality wherever they are manufactured in the world. To ensure this consistent standard, we have a detailed quality assurance programme.

Our blades have to be able to withstand at least 20 years of tough operation. That’s why we test everything thoroughly, right from basic materials and design principles to finished blades. Non-destructive testing (NDT) is an important part of this.

Our aim is to boost the efficiency of wind turbine blades – and also reduce their price. This requires perfect interaction between the blades and all the other wind turbine components.

Our blade researchers examine new laminates
right from nano level to full-scale testing
to ensure perfect interaction between
fibre and resin.
