The blades are the motor in a wind turbine – it is the blades that extract the energy from the wind.
The most direct way to exert any decisive influence on the price of wind power is by increasing annual energy production. In this regard, the blades play a crucial role. Different design details and features help ensure high performance for LM blades.
During more than 30 years, LM Wind Power has consistently achieved improvements in blade efficiency. Our targeted research in fields such as materials and design has enabled us to build ever-longer blades that are optimised compared with other parts of the wind turbines.
We’ve come a long way with the tools already at our disposal. However, as we want to continue to make crucial improvements to blade performance, LM Wind Power decided in mid-2005 to launch a major campaign with a focus on integrated aerodynamic design. From mid-2006, researchers at LM Wind Power have been able to test the aerodynamics of wind turbine blades at wind speeds of up to 375 km per hour in our own wind tunnel. It’s all a question of exploiting the power of the wind to best possible effect. LM Wind Power has built up the greatest body of know-how in the industry in the fields of blade design and aerodynamics.
