A lightning protection system placed in the tip of the blade provides good coverage. However, to obtain a high level of lightning protection right along the blade, receptors are also required further down. This is especially important for offshore wind turbines and blades made of carbon fibre.
LM MultiReceptors provide protection with several receptors mounted on both sides and along most of the length of the blade. These receptors start 20 metres from the blade root and continue at set intervals to the blade tip.

Each individual receptor is designed to absorb the force of a lightning strike and lead it away to the conductive system.
The combined number of receptors improve lightning protection right along the length of the blade, and LM MultiReceptors thus provide wind turbines – especially the larger ones – with a high degree of protection. Unplanned downtime is particularly expensive for large onshore and offshore wind turbines, and can now be kept to a minimum using LM MultiReceptors.
Our blades have to be able to withstand at least 20 years of tough operation. That’s why we test everything thoroughly, right from basic materials and design principles to finished blades. Non-destructive testing (NDT) is an important part of this.

Blades from LM Wind Power are designed with a highly advanced structure that’s based on a simple yet effective concept – two glass fibre shells stiffened with two webs.
